Supplies:
Cheesecloth (1 pack)
Muslin (about 1 fat quarter)
Liquid Starch
Syrofoam ball or other ball
2 litter bottle or jar
Heavy gauge wire
STRONG coffee stain or walnut ink crystals
Set up your “model” by pushing the Styrofoam ball onto a bottle. (I had an old softball and just set it in the top of a canning jar.) Wrap wire around the bottle and stick the ends out like “arms.”
Cut cheesecloth into wide strips and soak cheesecloth and muslin in liquid starch that has been mixed with a bit of the strong coffee stain.
Wring out the muslin and drape it over the “model.” This will help keep the light bulb from showing up underneath it.
Wring out the strips of cheesecloth and drape over the “model.” Don’t smooth them down but rather make folds and waves as you drape. I laid some craft paint bottle on their sides and draped the cheesecloth over it to form a wavy “hem” around the bottom of the ghost.
Let it air dry overnight.
Add more coffee to what you have already to make it even darker. Use a small paintbrush and brush the mixture here and there along the folds and creases. Let it dry. Add more if it’s not as dark as you like.
Once it’s dry, carefully remove the “model” out from under the ghost. I used an electric candle light underneath to give it that perfect “ghostly glow!”
